Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (born June 17, 1987 in Compton, California) is an American rapper, songwriter, producer, and one of the most influential figures in modern hip-hop. He first gained attention with early mixtapes under the name K.Dot before releasing his debut studio album Section.80 in 2011; his breakthrough came with good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012), a widely acclaimed concept album exploring life and violence in his hometown. Over the years, Lamar has pushed creative boundaries through albums like To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), DAMN. (2017), and Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers (2022), blending jazz, funk, soul and sharp political and personal introspection into his work. Among his many awards, he made history as the first non-classical or jazz artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music—and he continues to be praised for his lyrical depth, storytelling, and impact on both music and social discourse.
